Casual Sweater Friday

With my Sockapalooza socks out of the way (thanks for the compliments though I did notice that deodorant dude got my more comments than my most favorite pair of socks ever. Not bitter or anything, just saying.)I started hunting for a new project. I haven't worked on a new sweater lately and I've been thinking I need more spring/summer weight sweaters. Something simple to knock around in. I pulled out my blue Cotton-Ease and my stash of All Seasons Cotton. I started to dream up a multi-colored top-down sweater in the ASC maybe with set-in sleeves. I went through books, magazines and Ravelry for inspiration. Then I just wimped out and started a sweater from the Mission Falls Simple book. I originally planned on making the Bay Cardigan but it just looks so frumpy in the photo and I was thinking of a simple pullover. So I started the Bay Funnel Neck Pullover. I won't do the funnel neck, just a simple crew neck. The cable and lace pattern is simple and fun to knit. It did give me a pang of longing to start my Katharine Hepburn Cardigan but that is a wool sweater and I don't need a wool sweater right now.

I'm wearing my Sitcom Chic right now. I haven't worn it at all because when I finished it I wove in all the ends then clipped off the excess. Unfortunately there was one end that didn't get woven in but did get clipped leaving a hole at one of the underarms. I finally pulled out a sharp needle and some more pink Cotton-Ease and fixed it up.

One last note, Caryn, mentioned a new free online photo editing site called Picnik. Then in a strange confluence of events my photo editing software refused to open. So I tried Picnik out and I like it a lot. It's very simple to use and can link directly to your online photo sharing account.

Miscellaneous Catching Up

Trying to get caught up here...
I've been working on my sock yarn leftovers blanket. I keep it in the car and knit on it at meetings, standing on the playground, in line at the grocery store, etc. This weekend I transferred it to a longer needle.

So far I've used Lorna's Laces in Black Purl, Vera, Mineshaft (I think) and have just started with the Fortissima I overdyed last fall. The colors are a lot more subtle in real life.

I just finished the gusset decreases on the second Dalarna sock. Should finish those up in a few days. I also got my yarn for the Katharine Hepburn Cardigan from Lace Style. I picked up the swatch cap I was working on for Am Kamin and realized I did the last few rows wrong. I need to rip it out and get going again but my attention has drifted back away from that project.

In completely different news, I finally used my little pink Laptop Lunchbox.

I packed pot roast (very tasty with tomatoes and mushrooms), whole wheat couscous, carrots with salad dressing for dipping and beets with balsamic vinegar, blue cheese and pecans. I did put some plastic wrap around the container with the beets to keep everything from getting stained pink. It was all very delicious, nutritious and the most adult lunch I've had in a long time despite the pink lunchbox. It was actually more food than I could eat. Two thumbs up.

Time for Timer

Wes asked me the other night, after peering into the fridge, "Why'd you buy that hunk of blue cheese?" I told him that I "hankered for a hunk of cheese."

All kidding aside, I have been really feeling like my "get up and go has got up and went" lately. I'm feeling uninspired. I still love my whole hand processing fleece thing I've got going on but that project will take many, many more hours to comb, then I have to spin it.

For a little inspiration I put together a Flickr set with projects that interest me. I think part of my ennui is that I have been knitting from stash. And while I dearly love my stash I don't always find the right yarn for the projects I'd like to knit. So then I wrestle with do I try to knit a project I love from a yarn that's not quite up to snuff or do I suck it up and buy more yarn then feel guilty because I have perfectly good yarn at home. Back and forth I go. But I did order some some Gems in Eggplant to make the Katharine Hepburn cardigan from Lace Style.

Pretty, isn't it?

In the meantime I'm wondering what to do with my sweater's worth of Cotton-Ease. I had been thinking of making one of these two items from an old Mission Falls pattern books. Most likely the cardigan. But now there's a new Rowan Classic Yarn book, Classic Coast, that has lots of patterns I really like. They're mostly very simple, classic all designed for RYC Natural Silk Aran or Cotton Jeans. Both yarns are very similar in weight to the CE. I'm most interested in this cardigan. I also toyed with the idea of chucking everything aside and starting A Cardigan for Arwen tonight with the Cotton Angora I frogged a few months ago. The cardigan is shorter than I'd like but I know the yarn will sag and stretch a lot.

I'm feeling so torn right now I'm a bit paralyzed. It's just knitting, right? Why am I so wound up about it?
